City & State Information Our Peoria Park Civic Association (PPCA) Board Members actively participate in Aurora, Colorado's city government and engage our state representatives. Through contacts with our mayor, city council members, departments and public safety departments, Peoria Park is a well respected community at both the city and state government levels. This page keeps us informed of important city news and information our Board wants us to know about. Neighborhood Watch Peoria Park has a very active Neighborhood Watch Program. Please visit the Neighborhood Watch program page for more information. Don't Touch That Tree! The City of Do
not cut down a city tree without the permission of the City in writing. The PPCA will provide information to all new residents regarding the potential for a City tree in their yard in the Welcome Packs. An inventory of City Trees is on file with the PPCA secretary. Call Jane Deacon at (303) 337-4950 to see if you have a City Tree on your property.
New Information on City Trees (August, 2010) The City of Aurora has changed some of their guidelines related to City Trees. Full information is available at www.auroragov.org/trees. Many properties had a tree planted in their front yard by the City of Aurora when the neighborhood was developed (a few properties have 2 trees). These trees belong to the City of Aurora and are typically located within 4 feet of the sidewalk. The PPCA has an inventory of all City trees in the neighborhood (email the board at board@peoriapark.org if you are unsure whether a tree in your front yard is a City tree—there are no city trees in back yards). Due to budget cuts
the City has created a grid system for pruning City Trees. Our area
is not scheduled for routine pruning until 2014. If you don’t want
to wait for the scheduled pruning cycle you have two options: 1) Perform the
tree work yourself. Residents can prune low hanging limbs from the
ground to 15 feet. 2) Hire a
private licensed arborist to perform the work at your own expense.
You will not be reimbursed. You can find a list of approved
tree trimmers on the City
of Aurora website. While pruning of lower branches is allowed,
it is still illegal for citizens to remove, kill, or damage a city street
tree. If you have a tree
that is badly damaged and you feel it is a safety risk call the Forestry
department at 303 739-7177. They will send a supervisor to determine
if it needs more immediate attention. Aurora contact information:
